Tip n°54 : Acid-base balance (ABB)

Writer's picture: Dr. Sandra StallaertDr. Sandra Stallaert

You talking about ACID-BASIC BALANCE (ABB) is a bit of a summary of what I have been telling you for a while 😉.

It's about balance again ⚖️ this word is much more pleasant than 'healthy lifestyle', don't you think ❓

You may have already heard of this famous “AAB” but what does it really mean ❓

But first… how can we talk about balance in our living world which by definition is animated ❓

This balance can only be dynamic, we could say that balance is an imbalance in the process of perpetual recovery... good, good, good 🙂🙃🙂.

AAB is thus a dynamic between the tendency towards acidity and the tendency towards alkalinity (alkaline = the opposite of acid) within our body.

Some explanations of how it all works:

Our body, in its normal functioning, generates waste 🚮, most of it acidic... so far so good 👌, we have organs called emunctories whose role is to eliminate this waste 🗑️.

These organs are: the liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs and skin.

When they work well, they eliminate waste accumulated during the day ✌️. This is all quite normal ✌️.

However... yes, there is a big BUT... due to our lifestyles 🥴, we tend to overload these emunctories 🤢 which already have enough to do. The latter are no longer able to follow in order to eliminate all the acidity.

Result 🔜 increased acidity, we call it chronic acidosis... well when it becomes chronic it's because it has lasted too long 😬 ❗️

Logic my dear Watson 🕵️‍♀️ ❗️

Our body has almost superhuman adaptation capacities 🦸, but there are limits to everything, and in the long term it is illness that happens, especially chronic illnesses.

So, how do you know if you are in chronic acidosis ❓

I'm not going to give you a list 📋 of all the signs of chronic acidosis, this list is endless 🙉. Tell yourself that as soon as there is something wrong, there is a lot of chance... but it is not a chance... that you are in acidosis ☹️.

But, good news: this acidosis is REVERSIBLE... yes... REVERSIBLE... like many health problems elsewhere 💪.

❓How to establish or restore this important balance ❓

👉 Here is the list of what increases acidity in our body, for foods the goal is not to eliminate them, you understood the song 🎶 - we can eat everything, it's all just a question of balance - but don't overdo it 🤢 ❗️

➡️ Meat 🥩, sugar 🍰, refined cereals (e.g. white flour), alcohol 🥃, cigarettes 🚬 and other external pollutants, refined oils, salt 🧂, dairy products 🥛, too much sport or lack of exercise... once again, everything is just a question of balance ⚖️…, stress 🤯, I should put it in first position this one ❗️, medicines 💊, cooking at high temperature.

If you do not abuse the above and if you favor the following the balance will be perfect 👍

✅ VEGETABLES, VEGETABLES and more VEGETABLES: the alkaline food par excellence ❗️ 2 servings of vegetables for one serving of the rest

✅ Chewing makes foods alkaline. You understand why I insist so much on chewing 😉

✅ Raw foods

✅ Whole grains, low in gluten

✅ Fruits (bananas, figs, cooked tomatoes) and vegetables (leafy greens, roots and tubers) ✅ Spices and herbs

✅ Stress and emotion management

✅ Get some fresh air: breathing exercises, walks in nature, harmonious sports activities

✅ Lighten the evening meal and eat early

You already know, balance is not just food, it is holistic, which means global: the body (food), the soul (emotions) and the spirit (meaning)... yes … a bit reductive but at some point I have to stop writing ✍️✍️✍️.

Come on, with these good words, I say to you ✨✨✨MIAM la VIE ✨✨✨, receive my best loving thoughts and enjoy this start to the weekend 💫
